Who We Are
The Burnt Hills Baptist Church was organized in 1783 by pioneers as they moved westward from the church in Rhode Island which was founded by Roger Williams. A church building has existed on the present site since 1801. While we are a church with a long and rich history, we seek to bear a relevant contemporary witness.
We host and support local groups and organizations including Council Meadows – Senior Housing, the Ballston area Ecumenical VBS, and the Clock Group. Some of our ministries include Migrant Ministries, Samaritan’s Purse, Camp Pathfinder, 4 ABC National Offerings, Scholarships to High School Seniors, Salvation Army, City Mission of Schenectady, Schenectady Inner City Mission, Ellis Hospital Chaplaincy, Baptist Nursing and Rehabilitation, Community Human Services, Home Furnishings, American Baptist Churches / New York State, Springbrook, American for Christ, One Great Hour of Sharing, World Mission Offering, Retired Ministers and Missionaries, and the local food pantry.
The church has a strong commitment to local, national and international mission and service, supporting denominational, ecumenical and community agencies.
Meet Pastor Paul Smith, Interim Pastor
Pastor Paul came in November 2016 to be interim pastor, having previously had experience serving several churches as interim pastor. Originally from western Pennsylvania, he spent the bulk of his ministry in New England, after graduating from Nyack College and Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary. He also worked in home construction for several years. Pastor Paul and his wife, Patricia, have six grown children. He likes to hike, explore history and visit his grandchildren.
Pastor Paul preaches from the Bible, the Word of God. He is engaged with the congregation to discern our direction for the future and has found the people to be warm and welcoming. Together we are working to build on the long history of the church in Burnt Hills. We are excited to discover God's direction for the days ahead as we reach out to the community with the love of God in Jesus.
