Sermon: Elements of Christianity October 31, 2022
Scripture: Colossians 1 vs 3-5
To trust, faith is a starting point. No one is a Christian without faith.
Hebrews 11:6
And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.
There is the inheritance of faith – given to us by GOD!
Colossians 1:23
If you continue in your faith, established and firm, and do not move from the hope held out in the gospel. This is the gospel that you heard and that has been proclaimed to every creature under heaven, and of which I, Paul, have become a servant.
There is an inheritance of faith Colossian believers commanded to adhere to in the face of false teaching.
2 Timothy 4:3-4
For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths.
2 Peter 2:1
But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing upon themselves swift destruction.
1 Timothy 6:3-5
If anyone teaches a different doctrine and does not agree with the sound words of our Lord Jesus Christ and the teaching that accords with godliness, he is puffed up with conceit and understands nothing. He has an unhealthy craving for controversy and for quarrels about words, which produce envy, dissension, slander, evil suspicions, and constant friction among people who are depraved in mind and deprived of the truth, imagining that godliness is a means of gain.
The Gospel comes to us with our name on it. The Gospel tells us of God’s great love!
1 Corinthians 13:4-5
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.
1 John 4:7-9 NIV
7 Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. 8 Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. 9 This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him.
John 3:16 NIV
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
The Gospel tells us of what he does for those who have the courage to have faith. He is our Lord, Master, Friend, Counselor and Guide.
There is faith as a new way of living, a new outlook, a distinctive life!
And so the Christian lives in faith, walks in faith. Meets every situation that comes to them in faith.
Our faith grows, it is tested but we will be rewarded for our faith!
Through God all things are possible. That is why we are here, because we have faith that God exists and that with Jesus we can live at peace!!!!
Keep believing and your life will forever be changed.
I know mine has been and I hope yours has been too!
