Scripture: Acts 17:24-28
What if your God is too small? How about people who can’t even make a decision about believing in God, let alone Jesus? They are paralyzed and may die without knowing true salvation. In the Bible, Paul reveals that his God is a big god. For Paul, the words “my God” meant that he was great enough to cover his entire life. Unless your God is that big, then he is too small. We have been created in the image of God and given specific gifts. He wants us to become and serve others in the way that he has designed for us.
Listen to what Paul says about God our Creator:
v.24 “The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by human hands. 25 And He is not served by human hands, as if He needed anything else. 26 From one man He made all nations, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and He marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands. 28 For in Him we live and move and have our being. As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are His offspring.’ God is not served by human hands. What he desires is continued fellowship with us.
The psalmist had a big God. Psalm 23:1-3 The Lord is my Shepard, I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures. He leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul. He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
What does this mean for us? The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want means that nothing can happen to you that the Lord cannot handle or give you the tools to handle. In the Bible, not one person that came to Christ in need said, “Christ let me down.” One after another said, “Christ lifted me up!” When God is understood as being bigger than our needs, the dread and fear of life is taken away.
Our God reveals himself to us every day in many ways. He touches our lives and our spirit. When you accept those truths and use all of the talents that God has given you, then you have found faith. You will understand that you were made in the image of almighty God.
We all have a decision to make. If we decide that we do not want to be bound by the laws of God, we end up with a God that is too little to be the Lord of our lives. We need to let God into our lives and listen to what he has to say to us. Our fulfillment is a big God who answers big prayers. If your God is small, I say to you, you will live a small life. If your God is a big God, your life will be full of abundance.
